Shaider is a Japanese tokusatsu television series that aired from 1984 to 1985. It is the third and final installment of the Space Sheriff trilogy, following Gavan and Sharivan. Shaider follows the adventures of Dai Sawamura, a young detective who is recruited by the Galactic Union Police to fight the evil Fuuma Empire, led by the mysterious Emperor Kubilai. Dai is given the codename Shaider and a powerful battlesuit that allows him to transform into a blue-armored warrior. He is also assisted by his partner Annie, a female officer from Earth, and his robotic bird Pibo.
Shaider was dubbed in Tagalog and aired in the Philippines in the late 1980s and early 1990s. It became a popular show among Filipino children, who were fascinated by its action, special effects, and catchy theme song. Shaider was also one of the first Japanese shows to introduce the concept of a giant robot that can combine with a spaceship, called the Vavilos. Shaider's tagline was "Sinu sya, Kidlat na galing sa Kalangitan" (Who is he, Lightning from the Sky).
